The then ISI started its operations from ‘P’ Block, Raisina Road, New Delhi 110001.
Thereafter it shifted to Block 11, Old Secretariat, Delhi 110002, thereafter to
Shriram Institute for Industrial Research, 19, University Road, Civil Lines, Delhi 110008
and finally moving to Manak Bhavan, 9, Mathura Road, Later on
re-christened as Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, New Delhi 110002.
Building photo: Top Floor of this building (Shri Ram Institute for Industrial Research,
University Road, Delhi) housed the ISI Office.
The Making of Manak Bhavan
Due to constant change of premises by ISI, a need was felt by Dr. Lal C. Verman, the then Director of ISI, to have its own
building premises in Delhi. The move in this direction was made and Building Committee was formed under the
chairmanship of Shri Tulsidas Kilachand M.P. A Model and sketch of the proposed Manak Bhavan was displayed by
Dr. Verman during the different committee meetings while making appeal for generous donations to the committee.
