                                        LABORATORY ACTIVITIES




          With increased certification activities it was felt to check the  Office  Laboratory  (SROL),  Chennai  (1978);Northern
          ISI  marked  products  for  their  conformity  to  standards.  Regional  Office  Laboratory  (NROL),  Mohali  (1980);  Patna
          Hence  testing  the  product  at  laboratory  was  of  prime  Branch Office Laboratory (PBOL), Patna (1980); Bengaluru
          concern.  The  BIS  lab  was  started  in  1962  in  basement  Branch  Office  Laboratory  (BNBOL),  Bengaluru
          of Manakalya.                                       (1986);    Guwahati  Branch  Office  Laboratory  (GBOL),
                                                              Guwahati (1987).
          To cater to the growing testing needs of certification activity,
          BIS had set up seven more laboratories all over India. Now  A need was felt for a proper infra-structure for laboratory
          BIS   has Eigth laboratories in the country namely Central  with facilities for testing in mechanical, chemical, electrical
          Laboratory (CL), Shaibabad (1962); Western Regional Office  and  nondestructive  tests.  For  this  a  piece  of  land  was
         Laboratory  (WROL),  Mumbai  (1970);  );  Eastern  Regional  acquired in Ghaziabad.

                    Today the Central Laboratory is having a sprawling building with all test facilities at Sahibabad
