Overview of NITS

The National Institute of Training for Standardization (NITS) was set up under the aegis of BIS in 1995 to meet the growing needs and expectations of the industry for quality training in the fields of standardization, quality assurance, management systems, certification, laboratory testing, etc.

Since then NITS has been organizing various types of training programmes for industry as well as for consumer bodies and common man. NITS has also been organizing various International Training Programmes for Developing Countries of Asia, Africa, Europe and Latin & South America. The programmes are conducted by a team of well-experienced, qualified and trained faculty.

Keeping in view its expanding activities, NITS started functioning from its new premises in Noida from May 2003

Objectives Of NITS

NITS intends to play a significant role in national development efforts through Capacity Building in the area of standardization and conformity assessment tonational and international participants from various stakeholders of Quality ecosystem viz, industry, consumers, government, regulatory bodies, standarddevelopment organizations, laboratories, academia, technical experts engaged in standards formulation, conformity assessment etc. and training of employees of BIS.

Training Programmes Offered

NITS conducts a large variety of programmes on various subjects at its facilities in Noida campus as well as at its training centers in Chennai, Kolkata, Mumbai, Bangalore, Bhopal, Hyderabad and Jaipur. NITS also conducts programmes ONLINE. These programmes form part of NITS Annual Training Calendar and identified as ‘On-Campus Programmes’. Such programms are open to participation by any interested stakeholder either individually or through nomination by their respective organisations or registering as an individual

On many occasions, NITS client organizations require training courses customised for their officers/staff and conducted at their premises/online. NITS cater to these requirements by imparting the training at the premises of the clients on request.Such customized programmes conducted on specific request of client organizations at their premises/online are called as ‘Off-Campus Programmes’.

Following are some of the programmes which are being conducted at NITS:

  • Certificate Courses on Assaying and Hallmarking
  • Certificate Courses for Quality Control Personnel in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical and Microbiological streams
  • Lead Assessors Courses and Internal Audit/Awareness/Documentation programmes on Quality Management Systems (as per IS/ISO 9001), Environmental Management Systems (as per IS/ISO 14001), Occupational Health & Safety Management Systems (as per IS/ISO 45001), Food Safety Management Systems (as per IS/ISO 22000) and Integrated Management Systems etc.
  • Training for implementation of Service Quality by Public Service Organizations as per IS 15700
  • Training programmes for Laboratory Quality Management Systems (as per IS/ISO/IEC 17025) and Medical Laboratory Quality Management Systems (as per IS/ISO 15189).
  • Training programmes on Measurement Uncertainty and Inter Laboratory Comparison and Proficiency Testing.
  • Training programmes for Assaying and Hallmarking Centers
  • Training programmes for Standards Developing Organizations and for Technical Committee members
  • Training programmes on Consumer Awareness/Consumer protection

International Training Programmes

NITS is one of the training institutes identified by Ministry of External Affairs, Govt. of India under Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) and e-ITEC programmes, for imparting trainings to participants from developing countries

NITS has been conducting these programmes for developing countries of Asia, Africa, Europe and Latin America every year since 1968. The following programmes are being conducted for developing countries:

  • International Training Programme on Management Systems
  • International training Programme on Standardization and Quality Assurance
  • International Training Programme on Laboratory Quality Management Systems

Facilities

The NITS is located in a sprawling self-containedwi-fi enabled campus spread over an area of about 4 acres with a built up area of about 7000 sq. meters comprising of administrative block, hostel and residential quarters. Training facilities include well equipped training halls of different capacities (to accommodate from 20 to 50 participants) having modern audio-visual aids, an auditorium, a state of the art computer laboratory and a library. NITS also provides residential facilities to participants in its Hostel which has 46 spacious air-conditioned well furnished rooms with television and hot-cold water supply in each room, laundry and dining facilities. Hostel also provides post training hour recreational facilities such as gymnasium, table tennis, badminton, volley ball, carom, chess & darts and reading.

Clientele of NITS

NITS over the yearshas acquired the reputation of being the leading institute in the country offering trainings in the field of standardization, conformity assessment and quality. NITS has served various organizations from Ministries/Departments of Govt of India and State Govts, PSUs, private organizations, consumer organizations as well as individual professionals. With the stalling of physical training activity as a result of the Covid 19 pandemic, NITS smoothly transitioned towards organizing online courses which were quite popular and were greatly appreciated. So far NITS has trained more than 10,000 professionals in various areas of standardization, product testing, management systems, laboratory systems and control and consumer awareness.
